CultureCycling in Okinawa

The warm climate in Okinawa makes it a perfect place for cycling. Major international cycling races are held from autumn to early spring, and many people visit Okinawa for cycling. Most of the cycling courses on the mainland go along the beach, and can be divided into the southern, central, and northern areas. The central and northern areas have courses along the western and eastern coasts, where cyclists can enjoy different scenery.

Cycling in Ocean Breeze

Especially recommended courses for first-time visitors include: Niraikanaibashi Bridge (Nanjo City) in the southern area; Kaichu Doro (mid-sea road) (Uruma City) along the eastern coast in the central area; and Kouri-Ohashi Bridge (Nakijin Village) along the western coast in the northern area. Cycling on the Niraikanai-bashi course, you will be amazed by the panoramic view of the great ocean from the bridge and the breathtakingly blue sky. Constructed to connect the Katsuren Peninsula and the islands located ahead, the 4.7-km Kaichu Doro looks as if it runs on the water at high tide. The road is flat, so both beginners and advanced cyclists can fully enjoy cycling. Featuring the beautiful bridge and ocean, Kouri-Ohashi Bridge makes all cyclists who go through feel happy.

Going around by car is the basic way to go sightseeing in Okinawa, but if you want to know Okinawa more deeply, cycling is another option.
