EventsUeno Sakura Festival

Ueno Park has been a place famous for its cherry blossoms since the Edo era (1603-1867). Approximately 1,100 cherry trees of the someiyoshino variety are planted in the park with many forming a 300 meter long avenue. Many groups of friends or company workers enjoy parties under the trees on clear days and during the festival period, Daikokumai dances and a Kotobukijishi (lion dance) are performed by the Ohayashi hozon-kai (the Ohayashi Preservation Association) of Ueno. Added attractions include a plant market and an open-air antique fair. Ueno Park is one of Japan’s top 100 locales known for its cherry blossoms. *Schedule is determined according to flower forecast.
