Popular Illumination Events in Tokyo for 2019

Now in November, illumination events with various themes have started here and there all over in Tokyo. Colorful LED lights and electric decorations add both lively and romantic feelings to a winter night in Tokyo. Many people, including workers, lovers, families, and tourists, get together at illuminations in Tokyo, where they are illuminated by warm-colored light, forget the coldness, and have a great time with happy laughter and shining smiles under the night sky.

Here are highly-recommended illumination events in Tokyo for 2019. Enjoy the shining town this winter!

Yebisu Garden Place Winter Illuminations 2019

About 100,000 light bulbs, along with the gorgeous 10-meter Christmas tree at the Clock Plaza, illuminate the whole facility, creating the shining world with champagne-gold color. Under the title of “Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS: the Shape of Joy,” one of the world’s biggest Baccarat chandeliers will appear at the Center Plaza. With a height of about 5 meters, a width of about 3 meters, a total of 8,500 crystal parts, and a total of 250 lights, the radiance of the chandelier attracts whoever sees it.

Marunouchi Illumination 2019

Commemorating its 18th anniversary, this event has become the representative winter feature in the Marunouchi area. About 220 trees along the Marunouchi-dori Street lined with brand shops for about 1.2 km are decorated with about 1 million light bulbs with champagne-gold color. During this illumination, various Christmas promotions take place under the title of “STAR WARS: Marunouchi Bright Christmas 2019 – Precious for you,” in time with the upcoming release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” “Light Gates,” which also appeared last year, are installed in the Yurakucho area. The Otemachi Nakadori Street is also decorated with illumination. Enjoy the beautiful illumination while shopping!

Caretta Shiodome: Commemorating the release of Disney Movie “Aladdin” in MovieNEX

Caretta Illumination 2019 – Arabian Night –

Marking the 14th year, Caretta Illumination this year is inspired by the worldwide popular Disney movie, “Aladdin.” With an illumination show along with the song from the movie, “A Whole New World,” you can enjoy a magical night surrounded by shining light. There is lots to see at the venue, including the “magic lamp,” which appears on the central main tree.

Midtown Christmas 2019

A popular winter event at Tokyo Midtown. At the Plaza and along Gaien-Higasi-dori Street, you can enjoy “Tree Illumination” using about 220,000 light bulbs. For the main illumination “Star Light Garden 2019,” which attracts many people every year, this year’s theme is “space.” The special show using an 8-meter Space Tower and 2 kinds of bubbles along with about 190,000 LED and about 100 shining balloons is one of the highlights of the event.

HIBIYA Magic Time Illumination

With the concept of “every blink makes your special moment colorful,” the whole Hibiya area, including Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, offers an illumination event. The 12-meter main tree, “Starlight Tree,” at the Hibiya Step Square, is decorated with lights under the theme of outer space, creating a gorgeous space with sound and light. A special show called “Magic Time” is offered every 15 minutes.

Marking its 15th year, TOKYO DOME CITY WINTER LIGHTS GARDEN offers illumination with a motif of typical scenes of Japan and seasonal features, under the theme of “wa,” which literally means harmony. The Crystal Avenue is filled with beautiful light in the motif of Tanabata Star Festival. In addition, there are several photogenic spots filled with the beauty of “wa,” creating a gorgeous atmosphere throughout the whole area in Tokyo Dome City.

Taking place at the Oi Racecourse, which has been developing through the blending of “horse,” “people,” and “culture,” “TOKYO MEGA ILLUMINATION 2019-2020” has expanded for this 2nd year. It offers beautiful illumination installations, including the one expressing the landscape changing from the Edo period to the present and several other new installations (large fountains with rainbow-colored light, glittering trees along with aurora in the sky, and a 100-meter light tunnel with shining cherry blossoms).

Shinjuku Minami Lumi

At the venues, including Shinjuku Southern Terrace, Takashimaya Times Square, Shinjuku MAYNDS Tower, JR Minami-Shinjuku Building, JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower, and East Deck Bridge, illumination using gold color as a base is installed, decorating the whole Shinjuku South Exit area with warm light.

Shinjuku Terrace City Illumination

The commercial facilities around Odakyu Shinjuku Station are beautifully decorated with gorgeous illumination. Various kinds of illumination and photo spots are installed, which make workers, students, and visitors want to be connected with others. Between the West Exit and the South Exit, under the theme of “colors,” illumination and flower arrangements with five different colors by area are displayed. Inside Shinjuku Terrace City, there are four photo spots each with a flower wreath.
