Opening of “Korilakkuma Cafe: another me in the mirror” in Harajuku
Under the theme of “Korilakkuma,” one of the most popular characters now in Japan, “Korilakkuma Cafe: another me in the mirror” is now open in Harajuku for a limited time from Dec. 21 (Sat), 2019 to Mar. 22 (Sun), 2020.
With a love for Korilakkuma, I visited the cafe to collect information about it!
Located in Harajuku, this limited-time cafe is HARAJUKU AR BOX’s first table projection mapping cafe, which is equipped with the technology called “Interactive Tabletop Projection” developed by Sony.
First, go up the stairs to the second floor.
The view from the top of the stairs.
The cafe is very compact, with seats for two people divided by partitions.
The space is filled with the atmosphere of kawaii.
The walls around the seats are decorated with framed Korilakkuma drawings.
On the table, projection mapping has already started. Shining stars are moving around the letters.
This machine installed on the ceiling is creating projection mapping.
Along with description of the dishes, highlights of the cafe will be introduced!
The cafe serves a course meal for two for sharing. You can choose appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. The table projection mapping technology creates images of characters walking around the dishes and tables and drawing on dishes. By touching projected images on the table with your fingers, you can play with the characters! Images of the projection mapping vary by the dishes you choose.
Appetizers with soup and salad
The image created by projection mapping for my dish.
There are two kinds of soup to choose from: “clam chowder” and “minestrone soup.” You and your partner can choose different ones.
The clam chowder is loaded with clams, while the minestrone soup is filled with vegetables.
You can choose a main dish from several dishes, including “omu-rice” and “cream pasta,” with which you can enjoy drawing, and “chirashi-zushi.”
“Chicken and Mushroom Cream Pasta Made Delicious with Magic!”
By adding mentaiko (flavored cod roe) cream sauce, you can enjoy different tastes in one dish. What about “made delicious with magic”? You can find out about that by ordering this dish at the café!
“Omurice: Let’s Draw Together”
A white sauce-based omurice with a hamburger patty inside. You can see Korilakkuma’s face out of an omelet futon! Before eating, you can enjoy drawing on the omurice.
“Heart-shaped Chirashi-zushi with Korilakkuma”
Colorful chirashi-zushi with salmon and ikura (salmon roe).
*It is a seasonal dish only available from Feb. 17 to Mar. 22.
Dessert options include pancakes, French toast, and waffles.
I had “What’s inside? Fun French Toast.”
You can enjoy various tastes by combining French toast with whipped cream, fruit, and ice cream.
Some eggs are projected around the tray on the table and you can “crack” these eggs! It is fun to see what is coming out of them.
Pancakes served with fruit and ice cream. With a shake of the brush, something will happen to the pancakes! You can enjoy decorating with the toppings which come with the dish separately.
“Sakura Waffles in Full Bloom!”
Waffles topped with lots of fruit, including bananas, strawberries, and kiwis. Squeeze out the sakura-flavored whipped cream on waffles as you like. Korilakkuma will make sakura in full bloom!
*A seasonal dish available only from Feb. 17 to Mar. 22.
Lastly, I ordered a drink. It is not included in the course, but I highly recommend “Twin Korilakkuma Strawberry Milk” (990 yen before tax).
I was stunned by this super kawaii drink!
It was too cute to drink, but I enjoyed it anyways.
What I did wrong with this drink. I was so fascinated by this kawaii drink that I could not stop taking photos. Then, the Korilakkuma ice cream started melting! I had to drink it in a hurry. So, please be careful not to make the same mistake as me!
Lastly, there is a projection showing appreciation from Korilakkuma.
There is another happy surprise! Everyone who eats and drinks at the cafe can get a “Special Gift for visiting the cafe.” Then, if you ordered a drink, you will get a “Special Gift for ordering a drink” as well.
“Special Gift for visiting the cafe” is one of the “dolomite coasters” (you can choose one from 2 kinds),” and “Special Gift for ordering a drink” is one of the “original coasters” (you will get one randomly chosen from 4 kinds).
If you want, you can take home an illustration paper and luncheon mat which come with your dishes!
The cafe sells many kinds of original goods and items.
BIC ballpoint pens (pink or purple) 500 yen each (before tax)
Sliding Mirror (pink or purple) 1,200 yen each (before tax)
Acrylic key holders (4 kinds), 500 yen (before tax)
