Wonderful Italian dishes at “MOKICHI TRATTORIA,” an old folk house restaurant in Kanagawa Prefecture
It is still not so easy to go for a trip, but it feels like a waste of time staying home all the time! Probably many people agree with this. If you are interested in refreshing yourself by being surrounded by nature and enjoying delicious food, this is the article for you. We will introduce you to a highly-recommended restaurant!
I am Hanae. I prefer guesthouses to hotels. I love travelling while interacting with many people of various nationalities. I never miss uploading photos on SNS while I am enjoying a solo trip to remote islands in summer and onsen places in winter!
Chigasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture is a popular area among a wide range of people. With the ocean on the south side and the satoyama (village forest) in the northern part, this area is rich in nature and comfortable to live in, attracting many people moving from Tokyo.
An old folk house restaurant, “MOKICHI TRATTORIA” is located in Chigasaki. This restaurant is attracting much attention because it offers an opportunity to enjoy delicious Italian dishes in a space in harmony with nature!
Getting off at Kagawa Station on JR Sagami Line and walking through the quiet residential area, you will see a garden with a green tunnel approach. You will start anticipating what you will see on the other side of the tunnel.
On the other side of the tunnel, it is just like a resort area surrounded by trees. “MOKICHI TRATTORIA” is located within the premises of Kumazawa Brewery, the only brewery in the Shonan area. The premises not only have the restaurant but also many other fun spots for adults, such as a beer brewery, a Japanese restaurant, a bakery, and a gallery.
Among the others, the restaurant “MOKICHI TRATTORIA” stands out with its quaint, characteristic exterior. This building is a 450-year-old traditional Japanese folk house, which was relocated from Kamakura, an ancient city in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Once you step inside the restaurant, you can see the hill behind it through the windows, which creates a space with a beautiful contrast between the interior and the outside green color. Integrated with the outside trees and light coming through the trees, the Japanese-style indoor space is very spacious, quite beyond imagination from outside. There are about 180 seats in total on the 1st and 2nd floors. The restaurant is sometimes used for a wedding party.
The old posts and beams create a stately interior and a tranquil atmosphere. You can feel a quiet, peaceful air flowing through the building.
One of the attractive aspects of “MOKICHI TRATTORIA” is that you can drink not only sake but also beer fresh from the brewery within the premises throughout the year. “Shonan Beer” features many kinds. You can ask a staff member to recommend the best beer for your dishes.
The restaurant serves homemade pastas, pizzas, and other, seasonal, dishes, so you can enjoy different dishes at every visit.
The dish of homemade sausages and bacon is very hearty. One dish has three kinds of sausages, which go perfectly with Shonan Beer. The thick bacon is so juicy that you can enjoy abundant umami with each bite.
Another recommended dish is pasta with homemade pasta noodles. Carbonara with sea urchin sauce contains chewy and firm pasta covered with a rich sauce. The slight aroma of sea urchin is irresistible.
The pizzas are all baked in the stone oven inside the restaurant. The firm and chewy pizza crust will satisfy everyone from children to adults for sure!
Each dish “MOKICHI TRATTORIA” offers is very carefully prepared without any compromise so that some locals say that they are fully satisfied with any dish they order whenever they come. Even if you have a stressful day for reason or other, you will be able to get some comfort and healing from the time you spend at “MOKICHI TRATTORIA,” which is like a “secret base” for grownups. Add this restaurant to your list of weekend destinations.
