Traveling on Nagaragawa Railway
att.JAPAN Issue 61, Autumn/2012
Nagaragawa Railway is a local line running along the Nagara River from Mino-ota Station to Hokuno Station through Seki, Minoshi, and Gujo-Hachiman stations. The Seki and Mino areas are famous for traditional crafts. The cutlery of Seki has been made by skilled craftsmen since the 12th century and is one of the world’s top brands. Popular souvenirs from this area include cooking knives, shavers, make-up scissors, and nail clippers. The Seki Sword Traditional Museum has an exhibition of Japanese sword making. Mino, with 18th century town houses with fire protection walls on the roofs, is famous for washi, Japanese handmade paper. Beautiful washi products such as letter sets, towels, and socks, make perfect souvenirs.
