Enjoy early summer in Japan! Here are some highly recommended places!
We will guide you through various places where you can enjoy surprising and lovely views of summer and be refreshed by breathing fresh air. All of these places are accessible using JR EAST PASS.

Tsutanuma / Aomori Prefecture

The area abounds with wild birds and virgin beech forests. The “magnificent mirrored view,” which is created by the reflection of trees on the surface of the lake, is often described as mesmerizing. There is a walking path that guides you through the area in about 60 minutes.
Access: 1 hr 50 min by bus from JR Shin-Aomori Station (the bus fare is not included in the pass)

Jodogahama Beach / Iwate Prefecture

The white color of the sharp rocks, the green color of pine leaves, and the ultramarine blue color of the ocean create a wonderful contrast. There is a sightseeing boat tour, so you can enjoy the view of the beach from the ocean, too. In summer, you can also enjoy swimming in the ocean.
Access: 20 min by bus from JR Miyako Station (the bus and sightseeing bort fares are not included in the pass)

Rairai-kyo Gorge / Miyagi Prefecture

This gorge was formed by the erosion of the ground by the Natori River. Nozoki-bashi Bridge is located almost at the middle of the gorge, with walking paths stretching for about 1 km both ways. You can see a heart-shaped dent of a rock from the bridge.
Access: 50 min by bus from JR Sendai Station (the bus fare is not included in the pass)

Daiichi Tadamigawa Kyoryo Viewpoint / Fukushima Prefecture

The Tadami River and the steep mountains create a superb view along the Tadami Line. A viewpoint located about 15 minutes away on foot from Michino-eki (roadside station) Ozekaido Mishimajuku offers a grandstand view of the Tadami Line and the Tadami River.
Access: 40-min walk from Aizu-Miyashita Station

Mount Yahiko / Niigata Prefecture

You can either get to the peak via a climbing course (about 90 minutes), along which you can enjoy forest bathing while walking, or by taking a ropeway to the ninth Station. The peak (634 meter elevation) commands a panoramic view of the Japan Sea and the Echigo Plain.
Access: 15-min walk from JR Yahiko Station (the ropeway fare is not included in the pass)

Kurumayama-kogen Highland / Nagano Prefecture

With an average temperature of 13 degrees Celsius between April and October, Kurumayama-kogen is a place where it is nice and cool even in summer. It is nice and cool even in summer. It is covered with alpine plants from early summer to autumn. You can get to the top of the mountain in 15 minutes by connecting lift.

Midagahara Marsh of Mount Gassan / Yamagata Prefecture

Located at the eighth Station of Mount Gassan, this marsh looks like a wild flower field with various alpine plants, such as mizubasho (Asian skunk cabbage) and nikkokisuge (daylilies), from June to August. There is a trail, which takes about 60 minutes to go around.
Access: 2 hr by bus from JR Tsuruoka Station (Operation: July 1 to mid-October, the bus fare is not included in the pass)

Jogasaki Coast / Shizuoka Prefecture

Formed with molten rocks, this coast creates a wonderful view of a complicated coastline that has been deeply eroded. There is a hiking trail and you can enjoy a thrilling suspension bridge at the sheer cliff.

JR-EAST Train Reservation

You can reserve seats of JR East Shinkansen bullet trains and major limited express via “JR-EAST Train Reservation” website.
*A part of the trail is narrow and slippery. Please make sure to wear clothing and shoes appropriate for hiking.
