The sight of the “10,000 Eisa Dancers’ Parade” is well worth taking in, especially the highlight at the end of the parade, in which a large-group dance called the Eisa Pageant is performed. This show makes a great finale, with a group of 1,000 selected dancers performing the same sequence to the taiko drum beat, covering a mile-long stretch of the main street. This event draws an excited crowd of more than 100,000 people. Spectators can drop in on the day of the event to participate in a dance called Niwaka, with a fee of 1,000 yen for a few hours’ practice.
