National Treasure -World Cultural Heritage Site Himeji Castle
About 2 hours
Himeji Castle is one of the superb wooden structures of Japan, and reaches a perfection of beauty that has no equal around the world. You definitely should see Himeji Castle, which is now shining white following the completion of the repair work on the dai-tenshu castle tower. You can also enjoy the Japanese-style boat that floats along the canal and, if you are lucky enough, you may come across “ninjas” and armored soldiers!
Koko-en Garden
About 1 hour
A garden next to the castle where you can enjoy seasonal scenery. Especially, you should not miss the light-up of the momiji maple trees in autumn. It is also a popular spot for drama shooting, such as “Rurouni Kenshin” and many other historical dramas. Authentic tea ceremony experience classes are also available.
Shoshazan Engyoji Temple
2–3 hours
Secluded in a silent area among the mountains, this temple boasts a thousand years of history. It is also known as one of the filming locations of the Tom Cruise movie “The Last Samurai.”
Himeji Central Park
2 hours
A complex facility including an amusement park and a safari park. You can enter the safari with your car or enjoy a walk through an area. Rental car service is also available. The most popular attraction is the animals-feeding experience. Among 35 attractions inside the amusement park, you can enjoy a jump in the swimming pool in summer and ice-skating during winter.
Local Dishes
Himeji, which is surrounded by mountains and the sea, is considered to be a treasure house of delicious food. In addition to its fresh seafood and congers, as Himeji seasonal dishes we suggest tasting Himeji-oden and Almond-toast. Moreover, since there was a period during which Himeji developed as a castle town, production of Japanese sake and Japanese sweets still thrive.
