ReleaseMarch 1, 2018

Located in the heart of Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district, is a hidden gem: Samurai Museum Shinjuku. Upon entering, you can get a real sense of the ‘Japanese’ atmosphere felt inside of the establishment. Lined up along the side of the ground floor walkway is an array of samurai armors, guides in the museum will tell you with great pride that these are 200-400 year old genuine treasures, and not just replicas. Little bits of history are explained to you by guides and plaques and, as you move upstairs, you can experience samurai culture like never before. Don a kabuto and mempo (Helmet and face mask) and pose with a sword for a picture. Alternatively, watch a real master of sword fighting perform a show in which he demonstrates the different movements and attacks of the samurai. If you are brave enough, you can even volunteer to try for yourself.
