A Town of Cutlery, Seki City in Gifu Prefecture
Seki’s samurai swords, created in the Kamakura period (the 12th to 14th century), were much appreciated among samurai for their unrivaled sharpness. Later, Seki City in Gifu Prefecture continued to prosper as the biggest producer of samurai swords in Japan, handing down its traditional craftsmanship to modern Japanese swordsmiths and to the cutlery industry. Today, Seki City is known as one of the foremost cutlery producers in the world.
Appearance of scissors with designs based on Evangelion Unit-01 and Unit-02 models!
The artisanship of Seki City and the anime “Evangelion” have collaborated to create scissors with designs based on Evangelion Unit-01 and -02 models.
The Unit-01 model-based scissors with purple and green colors of the Unit-01 have finely-serrated blades with a great grip for tough objects to cut, such as carpets. There is a model name, “EVA TEST TYPE-01,” printed on the handle. The total length is 205 mm. 2,500 yen (tax not included).
The Unit-02 model-based scissors with red and yellow colors of the Unit-02, have finely-serrated blades with a part with a coarsely-serrated blade, offering great grip and cut for any type of item, such as ropes and metal wires. There is a model name “EVA PRODUCTION MODEL-02” printed on the handle. The total length is 205 mm, which is the same as the UNIT-01. 2,500 yen (tax not included).
Both models have a cap to ensure safe portability. The emblem of “Special Paramilitary Force NERV” from the anime is etched on one of the blades. Since each pair of scissors is individually crafted by the hands of artisans in Seki City, they are really sharp.
Evangelion Unit-01 and Unit-02 models-based scissors are available at various places, including Hakuhinkan TOY PARK Ginza, EVANGELION STORE TOKYO-1, AppBank Store Online, and Gifu Prefecture Hamono Kaikan (Cutlery Hall).
Japanese sword-shaped scissors and paper knives are also available.
