Wake Shrine is said to be one of the destinations visited by Sakamoto Ryoma, a prominent samurai of the late Edo period who is popular among history enthusiasts, during his honeymoon. Incidentally, Ryoma is believed to have embarked on the very first honeymoon in Japan!
