Come to Shima Spain Village! New attractions, new shows, new stuff galore

Brand new attractions and shows were unveiled at the resort Shima Spain Village in Mie Prefecture’s Shima City on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The Shima Spain Village theme park recreates the streets of Spain, filled with authentic flamenco dancing, Spanish cuisine, and a wealth of other attractions so everyone can enjoy a taste of Europe while still in Japan.
Now, the park’s one-of-a-kind features are better than ever. I couldn’t wait to see all the new attractions and musicals, so headed out there right away.

From Osaka-Uehommachi Station, the limited express train takes about two and a half hours to the nearest Ugata Station. With no transfer needed, I could relax and take in the scenic beauty of Mie. From Ugata Station, a direct bus whisked me off to Shima Spain Village.

Character Musical

At the Coliseum, I saw the new character musical “Don Quixote’s Gran Gala de Opera–The Return of Teatro La Mancha” starring the characters of Shima Spain Village. The lineup of famous opera pieces by Mozart and other composers were arranged pop-music style, so even people unfamiliar with classical music can have a great time. The amazing choreography of the dancers dressed in glittering costumes was also spellbinding.

Flamenco Show

One of Shima Spain Village’s most popular attractions is “Candela,” the flamenco show performed by real Spanish dancers (price: 700 yen, free for children under two years old, reservation required). Directed by Daniel Doña, a renowned choreographer in the world of Spanish performing arts, this show is a true gem rarely seen anywhere else.
I was blown away seeing the powerful performance of the dancers so close I could feel their breath. The beat of their light steps onstage was a sound I never wanted to end.

Attractions

I also visited the new attraction “Alice in Darkland.” In this walk-through attraction based on “Alice in Wonderland,” I face the Queen of Hearts who rules Darkland, with a magic wand in hand. Contrary to the cute illustrations, scenes like the final battle with zombie playing card soldiers gives this attraction an edge of dark mystery that left me craving more.

Parade

Be sure to catch the colorful cast of Shima Spain Village as they dance and saunter around the park in the “Espana Carnival Buen Viaje.” Thrilling music fills the air, and the excitement kicks up a notch with each colorful character-filled float that passes by.
The entertainers waved to the audience happily and taught us the dance, so even first-timers to the parade could join the fun festivities. At the end, they stole my heart with a send-off of beaming smiles!

Culinary Delights

Restaurants in the park offer not only authentic Spanish cuisine, but also seafood only found in Ise-Shima area . The paella we had at the restaurant “Alhambra” stood out for its heaps of Ise sea bream and noble scallop in a perfect fusion of local delights and Spanish tradition. Lunch sets are also available with gorgeous pizzas made to look like mimosa blossoms bursting with springtime vibes.

Churros

At the churros shop “Churreria,” we enjoyed the hot and crispy Spanish treats. Choose from cinnamon, chocolate, or strawberry (limited time only). Each order comes as a set of two, ideal for sharing with family and friends.
The shop opposite has a playful display of churros-shaped trinkets hanging from the ceiling along with a lineup of churros plush toys.

Souvenirs

The shops and restaurants lining Espana Street offer everything from character goods to Mie specialties and imported souvenirs of Spain.

Among these, the bestseller is the orange cake. The honey-soaked dough topped with bittersweet orange slices is a match made in heaven.

Summary

Although this was my second time to Shima Spain Village, there were so many new things to see and do it felt fresh and exciting! At the same time, the characters and cast members welcomed me with the same smiles as always, tugging my heartstrings with pangs of nostalgia.
