Jump, Run, and Learn! Enjoy the New Area at teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com (Toyosu)

On January 22, 2025, a new area has opened at teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com (Toyosu), one of Tokyo’s most popular tourist attractions. Three new areas — “Athletics Forest,” “Catching and Collecting Forest,” and “Learn & Play! Future Park”— have been added, expanding the total exhibition space by approximately 1.5 times. Over 20 works with an educational theme are now on display.

The att.JAPAN editorial team visited to experience what the new areas have to offer!
Here, we’ll introduce some of the most impressive exhibits.

Athletics Forest – Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres in the Caterpillar House

In the complex and three-dimensional creative exercise space known as Athletic Forest, the “Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres in the Caterpillar House” is a particularly exciting experience. Colorful balls spin rapidly on the floor and walls, but when you approach them, the spinning stops, allowing you to step on or jump onto them.

If you manage to perfectly step on all the balls of the same color, the wall-mounted balls burst open in a dramatic display, releasing a flurry of caterpillars. The sounds that play when you step on the balls add to the fun — be sure to give it a try!

Athletics Forest – Multi Jumping Universe

In the space- and star-themed “Multi-Jumping Universe,” stepping onto the floor mat causes stardust to gather beneath your feet, creating new stars. By chasing and jumping after the randomly moving stars to the edges of the space, you can experience the life cycle of a star.

As the stars grow larger through the gravitational pull of your jumps, they can eventually become black holes, swallowing the surrounding stars. This interactive experience lets you have fun while learning about the evolution of stars and the universe — highly recommended!

Learn & Play! Future Park – A Table where Little People Live

One of the most touching experiences in this area was the interactive opportunity to influence the world of the “Little People” through our own actions.

Two large round tables represent the world of the Little People, where many of them live. The movements of objects in their world are governed by the same three Newtonian laws of motion as in the real world — inertia, motion, and action and reaction. When you place an object on the table, the Little People become curious and try to climb onto it. You can even use small toy frying pans to cook fried eggs or bake cakes for them.

Just watching the adorable Little People is heartwarming, but we also felt a real connection when we realized that our direct interaction with the table was influencing their world in both big and small ways. The emotional expressions of the Little People made them feel almost human, deepening the sense of connection — a truly moving experience.

All the works in this area aim to achieve educational goals, with environmental issues also incorporated as part of the theme. There’s even more to discover beyond what we could introduce here, so be sure to visit and experience it for yourself!

If you get hungry, be sure to try the vegan miso ramen available only at Vegan Ramen UZU Tokyo, located within the facility. This popular ramen often draws long lines, and it’s not only vegan-friendly but also crafted to showcase Japan’s unique fermentation culture and umami flavors.
The broth combines dashi soup stock made from seaweed harvested in Rausu, Hokkaido, and domestically produced shiitake mushrooms, blended with creamy oat milk and several types of miso. The rich, smooth texture and subtle mushroom aroma create a deeply satisfying soup that eases your hunger and delights your taste buds.
