Recommended Restaurants in Nihonbashi’s COREDO Muromachi Terrace [Newly opened in 2021]

One after another, new shops keep popping up in the Nihonbashi area’s COREDO Muromachi Terrace, opened in 2019. This time let’s take a look at Tendon Kohaku and Wagyu Burger which just opened their doors in spring, 2021. We have tried both of them!

We visited one lovely April day. In front of COREDO Muromachi Terrace when the tulips were in full bloom.

Tendon specialty store Tendon Kohaku

My first recommendation is Tendon Kohaku, opened on March 29. This popular tempura rice bowl specialty store opened its first store in Singapore before expanding to other countries including the Philippines and Malaysia.

Finally, for the first time they have come to Japan. In Singapore, people have been lining up ever since they opened.

We tried three types of dishes: the restaurant recommended Kiwami Tendon, Temari Sushi Gozen, a popular choice with women, and a take on the popular Singaporean pork bone soup called Bak Kut Teh Soba. Antiviral measures are also strictly implemented in the shop.

Inside Tendon Kohaku

The Kiwami Tendon, served with nine types of freshly fried tempura, is truly a sight to behold. The massive conger eel sticking out of the originally designed bowl is astonishing.

The bowl of tempura comes with miso soup and chawanmushi (egg custard), and don’t forget to try the yuzu citrus and radish provided on the table. The refreshing pickles are great to cleanse your palate before the next bite of tempura!

Soft-boiled egg tempura + spicy sauce

One special feature are the rice and tendon sauce options! Choose from either Nanatsuboshi rice from Hokkaido or 16 grain rice, and select either the original sweet and spicy Kohaku Sauce or the Spicy Sauce made for Southeast Asia. I’ve now become a Spicy Sauce addict!

If you’re worried that the tendon bowl is too big to finish, we recommend the Gozen Set.

At dinner time it’s nice to be able to choose the tempura, oden, or soba I like beyond the set menus. I can’t wait to try the tempura shrimp rice balls!

Feel like a drink? There’s plenty to choose from making it a great choice day or night.

Hamburger specialty restaurant Wagyu Burger

Next up is the hamburger specialty restaurant Wagyu Burger opened on April 10! This is a new venture for the popular Kanto region yakiniku restaurant company, Heijoen.

With the concept of “the hamburger as Japanese beef cuisine,” four kinds of 100% A5 Wagyu beef burgers are on offer with custom-made buns made to match the Wagyu flavor! “THE Wagyu Burger” on the signboard menu is not only a Wagyu patty but also topped with homemade original 100% Wagyu bacon to boot.

THE Wagyu Burger

Let’s try it!

THE Wagyu Burger Set

At first bite, I was overwhelmed by the scent of smoked Japanese beef bacon filling my mouth! This bacon is made from the neck cut of A5 Wagyu, aged for 7 days at the store.

And the shank cut patty with its strong meaty flavor and slightly grilled crust is irresistible for any true carnivore!

Top it off with their original yuzu hot sauce.

There are lots more like the Wagyu Cheeseburger, Wagyu Chili Con Carne and Wagyu Teriyaki Burger. I don’t know which to choose!

The drink selection includes not only standard sodas, but also matcha and roast green tea latte, as well as shakes developed with the famous brand “nana’s green tea.” Personally, I recommend the matcha shake with its deep aroma and smooth taste. You’ll be hooked after one sip!
