Tokyo’s Must-see Illuminations【2021-2022 new version】

With November well underway, illumination events celebrating various themes have begun to open throughout Tokyo. Their colorful LED and neon lights give the winter city a romantic air.

Yebisu Garden Place Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS: The shape of joy

Marking its 22nd year in 2021, this event is now a winter tradition in Ebisu, illuminating the district with the glow of a chandelier every year. Here, one of the world’s largest Baccarat chandeliers will be displayed in the central square. At 5 meters high, 3 meters wide, and made with a total of 8,500 crystal pieces, the chandelier’s 250 radiant lights will mesmerize visitors. This year, augmented reality content titled “Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS and Instagram AR Filter” has been made available so that the Yebisu Garden Place chandelier can be enjoyed on-site, at home, and elsewhere. With AR technology, you can snap a picture from the best angle and appreciate one of the world’s grandest chandeliers in a virtual setting.

Marunouchi Illumination 2021

This annual event marks its 20th year this season. Over 340 trees grow throughout the Marunouchi area, with the majority lining Marunouchi’s 1.2 kilometer Marunouchi Naka-dori Street, from Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan in front of Yurakucho Station towards Otemachi Naka-dori Street. These trees glow with the light of around 1.2 million champagne gold-colored LEDs. Also bursting into light is “TOKYO TORCH Park,” the expansive outdoor plaza in front of Tokiwabashi Tower. Making its debut in July 2021, it is now known as the new landmark in front of Tokyo Station’s Nihonbashi Exit. In addition to the “TOKYO TORCH Terrace” shopping area, there are many establishments in the Marunouchi area with terrace seating, allowing you to relax and enjoy the illuminations outside. Until December 25, the event’s theme will be “Marunouchi Bright Christmas 2021, Harry Potter: A gift from the wizarding world.” The Christmas trees and lights will help create this beloved world of magic.
