Would you like to go cycling in Sapporo, Hokkaido’s biggest city? Sapporo has many things to enjoy, such as photogenic food items and art spots. If you want to visit these places and avoid the crowds, cycling is the best means of transportation! Here, we introduce a one-day cycling course using a bicycle-sharing service called “Porocle,” which allows you to pick up and drop off a bicycle here and there within the city of Sapporo.

About “Porocle”

Porocle is a bicycle-sharing service available in Sapporo, which allows you to borrow and return a battery-assisted bicycle at one of more than 50 ports (dedicated bicycle parking lots) in the city. You can pick one up at a port and drop it off at a different port.

 One-day pass fees 

  • Purchase at tourist information centers, hotels, and other facilities: 1,650 yen.
  • Advance purchase on the web or at convenience stores: 1,430 yen. 

* If you need support in English to buy a pass, it is recommended to purchase one at a tourist information center or hotel, or purchase one on the web, which gives instructions in English.      
* Pass valid until 23:59 on the day it is used.

Rent a bicycle at Sapporo Station!

Purchase a one-day Porocle pass at Hokkaido Sapporo Tourism Information Center at JR Sapporo Station. Then go to the port at the north exit of the station, get a bicycle, and off you go around the city!

Enjoy nature and art at “Moerenuma Park”

Moerenuma Park is a vast green space located about 1 hour by bicycle from the city area. At the spacious 188.8 hectare site, you can see art works by Isamu Noguchi, a prominent sculptor, here and there in harmony with the natural surroundings. Have fun cycling around the park looking for art works!

Quench your thirst at “Sapporo Beer Garden”!

Once back in the city, you can drop off your bicycle at the port at the entrance of Sapporo Beer Garden. This beer garden is attached to Sapporo Beer Museum and is run by the city’s own popular brewing company. You can enjoy draft beer and “Genghis Khan,” a Hokkaido grilled mutton specialty and the “soul food” of Sapporo. “Sapporo Five Star,” the recreated high-end beer first launched in 1967, is only available here. A perfect way to complete your cycling trip!
