On April 4, 2026, the permanent theater “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo-” opened in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Here, visitors can enjoy an immersive show that brings the world of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon vividly to life.
This was my first time experiencing a “2.5D musical,” and my memories of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon were quite vague—I only remembered watching the anime with my older sister as a child. Naturally, I felt a bit unsure before the show began. But once the curtain rose, all those doubts instantly disappeared. In this article, I’ll share the full charm of this much-talked-about new attraction.

Tokyo’s Must-Visit New Theater: “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo-”

“Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo-” is a theater where visitors can fully immerse themselves in the unique world and charm of “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.”
The venue is Club eX, located inside the Shinagawa Prince Hotel, just a five-minute walk from the Takanawa Exit of Shinagawa Station. The show features a completely new original story in which the Sailor Guardians face off against an AI-driven enemy. With its contemporary theme, the performance is easy to follow even for those experiencing “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” for the first time.
The cast is divided into two teams, “Team Gold Moon” and “Team Silver Moon.” The performance I attended was by Team Gold Moon.

First-floor tables feature illustrations of each character.

Four Highlights You Can Experience Only Here
┃Highlight 1
Incredible proximity to the stage for an immersive experience
The distance between the audience and the stage is remarkably close. The first-floor seating area is flat, unlike the tiered layout of a movie theater, creating an intimate atmosphere where you can almost hear the performers breathe.

With dazzling choreography combined with striking visuals, lighting, and sound, along with performances by a cast that seems to step right out of the original story, I was instantly drawn into the world of “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.” The word “immersive,” often heard in recent years, fits perfectly. In fact, this experience goes beyond what is typically described as immersive theater and creates a truly overwhelming and captivating space. The elegant songs and dynamic dance performances presented between scenes and in the finale are also not to be missed. It was such a mesmerizing experience that I didn’t want to blink.
┃Highlight 2
Capture the moment with designated photo and video time
Photography and video recording are usually prohibited at concerts, plays, and shows in Japan. However, this show includes a special time when visitors are allowed to take photos and videos.
Toward the end of the performance, three songs are featured, including “Moonlight Densetsu,” the opening theme of the “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” TV anime series, and the show’s main theme, “Brilliant Justice.” When photography is permitted, camera icons appear on both sides of the stage. To avoid missing the perfect shot, keep your smartphone in your pocket rather than placing it in the basket under your seat, so you can quickly turn it on when the moment arrives.

When the opening notes of the classic “Moonlight Densetsu” began to play, the entire audience erupted in cheers.
Personally, I also loved the original songs and their choreography. For about a week after seeing the show, I kept rewatching the videos again and again. It’s truly wonderful to relive the excitement of the theater experience as many times as you like.
┃Highlight 3
A production that goes beyond language barriers
The show is thoughtfully designed so that anyone can enjoy it, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. Real-time English subtitles are displayed above the stage, and the story is conveyed through music, dance, and the cast’s expressive performances, including their subtle movements and facial expressions. Even if you don’t understand Japanese, you can fully enjoy the experience. It’s also a great spot to confidently recommend when showing Tokyo to friends from overseas.

┃Highlight 4
The entire theater is filled with the world of “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon”
The experience goes beyond the show itself. In the first-floor lobby, a newly created illustration of the ten Sailor Guardians by creator Naoko Takeuchi is on display. On the second floor, the corridor is lined with displays featuring the iconic chest ribbons of each Sailor Guardian, delighting fans at every turn.

Even the restroom pictograms are designed with a “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” theme. iscovering these small details throughout the theater is part of the fun.
